Why Paramount in looking at settling a “flimsy” lawsuit from Trump

Will Trump use the US’s newly-minted sovereign wealth fund to buy TikTok? He suggested as much at a press conference in the Oval office while flanked by Rupert Murdoch and Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle.

Trump has previously suggested Ellison should buy the video-platform and described him as “one of the most serious players anywhere in the world”. But there’s a niggle the two may need to iron out if they are to continue their close business relationship.

The investment vehicle of Ellison’s son, David, is currently in talks to buy Paramount Global, the entertainment company in which Shari Redstone has a controlling stake.

Trump recently sued the company for a report that appeared on CBS’s “60 minutes”, alleging that an interview clip with Kamala Harris was deceptively edited.

Paramount is reportedly exploring a settlement for the case which legal experts say is flimsy. Is this a case of a deal for a deal?
