The misogynistic British-American influencer Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan, landed in Florida yesterday after Romanian prosecutors lifted a ban on their travel.
The Tate brothers are facing trial in Romania on charges of rape, trafficking minors and money laundering.
They also face separate, unrelated civil charges in the UK over allegations of rape and human trafficking, along with another civil case in the US. They have denied all charges.
Although prosecutors said the Tates will have to return to Romania later next month, it’s believed pressure from Donald Trump’s White House forced authorities in Bucharest to lift the travel ban.
Lawyers representing four UK women who have accused Andrew Tate of rape and coercive control said they were “retraumatised” by the news and their solicitor Matthew Jury said that any suggestion the Tates will now face justice in Romania “is fanciful”.
They have called on Keir Starmer to raise the issue in Washington this week and to secure Tate’s extradition to the UK.
