A US startup has released a video showing a prototype of the world’s first “real” flying car taking off and flying above an SUV.
Alef Aeronautics says its car, the Model A, is designed to take off vertically to glide over obstacles and traffic.
More than 3,200 people have already preordered the $300,000 car.
It has an estimated airborne range of 68 miles (the distance between Buckingham Palace and Southampton, as the car flies).
Jim Dukhovny, the firm’s CEO, hopes it can start production by next year but is tight-lipped about the all-electric craft’s design in a bid to protect its intellectual property.
What’s more: the company was formed in October 2015 – the same date, the firm notes, that Marty McFly zipped around in a flying DeLorean in Back to the Future Part II.
